Is r22 refrigerant and r134a common? Refrigerant science tips


1. R134a has a GWP of 0.25 and R22 has a GWP of 0.36, both of which are greenhouse gases.

2. The ozone-depleting potential (ODP) of R134a is 0 and R22 is 0.06, which is the reason for R134a to become an environmentally friendly refrigerant.

3. The specific volume of R134a is 1.47 times that of R22, and the latent heat of evaporation is small, so the freezing capacity of R134a unit is only 60% of that of R22 unit. In terms of unit cooling capacity, the price of R22 unit is about 60% of that of R134a unit.

4. The heat conductivity of R134a is 10% lower than that of R22, so the heat exchange area of the heat exchanger of R134a unit needs to be larger.

5. R134a has strong water absorption, 20 times that of R22, so it requires higher requirements for the dryer in the unit system to avoid the phenomenon of ice blocking.

Known as environmentally friendly refrigerants, other refrigerants such as R410A, R440A and R407C in the HFCs class are superior to R134a in efficiency, but they also have disadvantages such as high working pressure, high requirements for the optimal and pressure resistance of pipeline components, improved design of heat exchanger and unit, and high investment in operation and maintenance costs. The application of large refrigeration units is not adapted to the basic situation of our country. This is the reason why the international convention can relax the period of using HCFCs in developing countries, and the result of the collective efforts of developing countries.
